Of all the places I have visited in Thailand, the South is by far my favorite place. In particular, Krabi and the surrounding islands is a place I have visited many times, I try to go there at least a couple of times a year. There are a number of beaches in the Krabi area but the most popular is Ao Nang. Ao Nang is the most commercialized area of the Krabi province but it is nowhere near as overdeveloped as its neighbor in Phuket. Yes, there is a Starbucks, McDonalds, Subway, Burger King and all those franchise stores but they are spread throughout and there is only 1 of each
Ao Nang boasts some incredibly individual restaurants with local southern food as well as international food. Being in the south, there are a lot of Muslim run enterprises and halal restaurants. Indian is also a favorite of Ao Nang and there are a few amazing Indian dishes being served. There is a bar area but it is self-contained and does not make the area noisy in the evenings. Overall, those looking for good restaurants and bars and some nightlife it is an ideal resort.
The main reason most people visit Krabi and Ao Nang is to visit the islands that are located off the coast. A short boat ride will get you to Railay beach, a beautiful white sandy beach and calm sea as well as rock climbing that can be attempted on one of the formations. Furthermore, there are also boat trips that regularly go to the surrounding islands. Some of the most popular of these are James Bond Island, the shooting location for The Man with The Golden Gun. There is also Chicken Island and one of the most famous Phi Phi Island. Tours leave daily for half day or full day and are well worth a visit. Ao Nang beach itself is a nice place to relax but during the rainy season the tides can swell up and bring in some unwanted jelly fish.
Ao Nang really has everything you need for a nice relaxing holiday. There are luxury resorts as well as mid and low priced hotels in the area so if you are traveling on a budget you can still enjoy the resort. If you want to spend some more money and upgrade to a luxurious resort then Ao Nang provides these options. Life in the south is very laid back and the air is clean, there isn’t much traffic in the province and none of the big tour buses you get in Phuket. The resort is small enough you can walk around it in just an hour or so, I’ve done a run around the entire resort to the main road. I would very much recommend a visit to Ao Nang beach when visiting the resorts of Southern Thailand. Here is a link to my favorite hotel. You can also book here at Hotel Booker Online
